Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Class Structure

Warm Ups: All warm up drills will enhance your overall gmae of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and grappling in general. The drills are the fundamental movements found in a lot of the self defense and ground techniques performed in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and the Mixed Martial Arts class.

Self Defense Technique: What differentiates a Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu class and other Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes? In a Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitus class the self defense techniques are taught from the standing position in every class. It isn't all groundwork, although 90% of fights end up on the ground, 100% of fights start from the feet and Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu addresses this fact. We train for the untrained bar brawler as well as the conditioned athlete. The ultimate goal of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioner is self defense, and if you are always starting your training sessions from ground positions, you aren't training for self defense.

Take Downs: You will go over takedowns during every class, sometimes learning a new one, sometimes practicing your favorite one. You have to be able to get it to the ground if need be.

Ground Work: It is essential that you know what to do when you hit the ground. Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu covers this with reality proven techniques that have been used in real life situations for generations.

Live Grappling: Done during the last half hour of class. You will participate when you feel you are ready and with instructor approval. Those of you not ready will drill technique instead, but it is a must sooner or later as it teaches you what to do and when to do it.
